Waterborne Electrostatic Flocking Adhesive

Waterborne Adhesives for Electrostatic Flocking

These adhesives are self-crosslinking acrylic polymer emulsions developed for electrostatic flocking — the process in which short fibres are projected onto a freshly coated surface under a high-voltage field and then cured. They form a tough yet soft adhesive film with resistance to water, abrasion, light, heat, ageing and solvents, and they are applied to fabrics, paper, rubber, wood, PVC and other substrates to give a soft tactile finish.

The grades differ mainly in solids content and viscosity, which is what determines the coating weight and the substrate they suit:

  • B-7642Z — 40 ± 2% solids at 6,000 ± 2,000 cPa·s, a mid-viscosity grade synthesised from imported functional monomers.
  • DA-HS and DA-24H — 40 ± 2% solids at 20,000 ± 5,000 cPa·s, the higher-viscosity grades with strong adhesion; both are formaldehyde-free and meet export environmental standards.
  • B-7628Z — 30 ± 2% solids at ≤ 1,000 cPa·s, the low-viscosity grade for applications needing a thinner coating.

Typical processing conditions across the range are a coating weight of 100–200 g/m², an electrostatic voltage of approximately 50,000 V, and thermal curing at 110–150 °C for 2–5 minutes.
