Product Selection & Compatibility
Q1: Which waterborne adhesive should I use for carton sealing?
Huacheng supplies four waterborne sealing adhesives: 601 (manual sealing), 602 (printed carton sealing) and 7892 / 7894 (general waterborne sealing adhesive). Selection depends on three things:
- the sealing method — hand brushing or a machine line;
- the carton surface — kraft, printed, UV-varnished or laminated;
- the drying speed your line needs.
Send us a carton sample together with your line speed and we will recommend the grade.
Q2: What is the difference between 601 and 602?
601 is positioned for manual sealing; 602 is positioned for printed carton sealing, and 602’s published process guidance additionally covers UV-varnished and laminated cartons. Both are pale yellowish viscous liquids with a six-month shelf life at 0–50 °C.
Q3: Can your adhesive be used on UV-varnished or laminated cartons?
Yes, but pre-testing is required. On UV-varnished cartons the varnish layer itself can fail before the adhesive does, and the same applies to the film layer on laminated cartons. Our process guidance requires a small-scale trial under your actual production conditions before mass production, to confirm that the varnish or film is compatible with the adhesive.
Q4: Do you provide samples for trial before mass production?
Yes. We ask customers to run a small-scale trial test under the same conditions as their production line before mass production. Contact us with your substrate and line parameters to arrange a sample.
Application & Construction
Q5: Do I need to dilute the adhesive with water before use?
No. Do not dilute with water, do not add other substances and do not mix with other adhesives during use — doing so destabilises bonding performance.
Q6: We seal cartons by hand — what should we watch out for?
Press the bonded surfaces together immediately after application. If the carton has to be set aside temporarily, make sure the adhesive layer stays wet and complete the pressing before it fully dries.
Q7: How thick should the adhesive layer be?
Control an appropriate coating thickness and avoid layers that are too thin — an overly thin layer will not give reliable adhesion. Set the thickness together with your line speed and substrate.
Q8: How long must cartons be pressed after gluing?
The two bonded surfaces should maintain good contact and be continuously pressed for at least 30 minutes.
Q9: We seal by machine — what should we check?
Check bonding and curing conditions after the adhesive is applied. If any unsealed edges appear, adjust the machine speed, apply additional pressure, or switch to a faster-drying adhesive.
Quality Control & Troubleshooting
Q10: How do I know the seal is good enough?
Inspect the bond within 24 hours of sealing. If the bond reaches fiber tear of the paper substrate — the paper fibres tear before the adhesive joint fails — the adhesion is strong and stable with long-term reliability.
If it does not reach fiber tear, do not simply increase the amount of adhesive. Review the operation process first and evaluate whether the adhesive is compatible with your current process. Suspend use of the product until the issue is resolved.
Q11: Why do unsealed edges appear on a machine sealing line?
Usually one of four causes: coating thickness too thin, line speed too high for the adhesive’s drying rate, insufficient press pressure, or a surface (UV varnish / lamination film) that the adhesive cannot key into. Work through them in that order.
Q12: The adhesive worked in the trial but fails in mass production — why?
Almost always because the trial and the production run were not carried out under the same conditions. We ask customers to conduct the trial test under the same conditions as production: the same substrate batch, line speed, press pressure, workshop temperature and humidity. If any of these change, re-test.
Storage, Packaging & Shelf Life
Q13: What is the storage temperature and shelf life?
- 601 / 602: 0–50 °C, six months
- 7892 / 7894: 0–40 °C, six months
Q14: What packaging do the adhesives come in?
7892 and 7894 are supplied in 20 KG plastic drums. Packaging for 601 and 602 is confirmed per order — tell us your line and your volume and we will confirm the drum size.
Q15: What should I do if the adhesive has been exposed to freezing?
Our published storage ranges are 0–50 °C for 601 / 602 and 0–40 °C for 7892 / 7894. If a drum has been exposed to freezing in transit or in the warehouse, contact us with the batch number before use and we will advise case by case.
Commercial & Export Support
Q16: Can you provide TDS / MSDS and technical documents for bidding?
Yes. Huacheng regularly supplies bidding and technical documentation. Contact us with the document list required by your tender.
Q17: Can you export? Are there shipping restrictions?
Waterborne adhesives are water-based and non-flammable, which simplifies export compared with solvent-based products. Contact us with your destination country and we will confirm the documentation required.
Q18: Is technical support available during production?
Yes. If a bond fails the fiber-tear check, send us the substrate, the adhesive batch number and your line parameters, and we will work through the process with you.
Q19: What is the warranty?
A 12-month quality warranty from delivery date. Defective product caused by quality issues is replaced free of charge.
The warranty excludes failures caused by improper use, incorrect mixing or process parameters, incompatible or contaminated substrates, and extreme conditions.
